Career Description:

An account specialist is the point person in handling customer or client accounts.  Depending on the company one works for, the account specialist is responsible for sales accounts, billing, collection and payments.  The account specialist’s job is to know the needs of clients or consumers. Client information, feedback, issues and suggestions are taken into consideration.  The account specialist may also work on payment follow-up and concerns.

In the healthcare industry, he coordinates with insurance providers regarding claims and benefits. Payment collection also falls into an account specialist’s hands.  All customer issues, problems and inquiries regarding their accounts are handled by the account specialist.  It is a must that one has skills in organization, analysis, problem solving, communication and interpersonal.

How to become an Account Specialist

To become a successful account specialist, one has to earn a bachelor’s degree in business, marketing or other related field.  One has to gain training in customer service, communication and computer applications.  Gain practical experience to have a better chance of getting employed.  With the ever changing world of business, one must be able to gain new skills and theories through formal education and trainings.
