The career of an accounting technician takes on an important and vital position in various companies or organizations.  The accounting technician is employed to do various tasks in line with finance. His responsibilities cover accounting, auditing, preparing accounts, payroll management, oversee financial transactions, monitor budget and expenses, handle bookkeeping and invoices, and accomplish financial reports.  An accounting assistant may give advices regarding budgets, taxation, and accounts.  Other accounting technicians perform specialized work depending on one’s employer.  While others work independently or privately providing auditing and accounting services to various clients.  An accounting technician must be organized, analytical and detail- oriented.  One must be have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

How to become an Accounting Technician

Becoming an accounting technician requires the necessary educational background, skills and experience.  One must have at least a high school diploma.  While this is enough for some employers, others require an accounting technician to have an associate’s degree in finance, accounting or other related field.  One must take courses that will hone and develop one’s skills in computer applications, and math.  Gain work experience in an office and get trained in accounting, bookkeeping and customer service. Obtain a certification through the American Institute of Professional Bookkeepers.  Maintain certification by taking continuing education classes.
