Aerospace engineers create and design machines that are used airborne, including aircrafts, spacecrafts and missile systems. They are also responsible for testing these products and maintaining them when in use. The products that they come up with are used in aviation, in the military (missiles) and in space exploration. This particular field is considered one of the most technical fields of engineering. One must have a genuine interest in mathematics, physics and mechanics. It is also a very dynamic and demanding field that is characterized by rapid growth.

How to Become an Aerospace Engineer

To be an aeronautical engineer one requires a minimum degree in the field. Very few institutions are equipped to offer this course because of its technical nature and the required facilities. The course lasts for a period of four to five years, and it is a very physically demanding course. Online programs are available for postgraduate degrees.

Types, Description, Information

Most aeronautical engineers work in aviation and the military by maintaining the machines in these fields and an aeronautical engineer who specializes in this area is called an aeronautical engineer and those that deal with space exploration are called astronautical engineers. The latter deal with airborne machines used on earth and the former with those machines used in space.

Qualifications: Courses, Training, Certification

Students intending to pursue this career should be careful to attend institutions that are accredited by governments to offer this course. This is mainly because of its technical nature and the nature. Only certificates from reputable schools enable one to be able to get a job in this field. Those intending to work in aviation industry usually undergo courses that are offered by specific firms on using their machines. For example most airlines (which hire most aerospace engineers) have their own courses on how to operate their aircrafts that an individual has to go through so as to be inducted in the company.

Schools, Colleges and Education

They are few accredited institutions that offer these course and some of the best are as follows:

Job Opportunities, Salaries and Recruitment

It is predicted that the demand for this career is bound to fall in the coming years. This is as a result of few people in this career retiring as opposed to those graduating into the field. The advantage though is that the skills acquired in this course can be applied in other related engineering careers like motor manufacturing. The jobs in this career are relatively well paying. On average an engineer in this field receives a minimum salary of $50 000 per year and more.
