How to Become an Auditor
You will need to graduate from high school. It is important that you take math and accounting classes when in high school. Then you will need to join college and major in an accounting. You will then be required to work for at least two years in order for you to become a Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) by the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA). There are other certifications available for auditors such as Certified Government Auditing Professional (CGAP). Again, it would be advisable to have CPA qualifications since this is a prerequisite for employment for most audit firms.

You have the option of undertaking a degree which is not accounting related if you want to pursue an auditor career. However, it would be preferable that the degree program you choose should have a numerical basis such as math or be business related. For instance, you can undertake a degree course in Economics or Business studies.
Auditor training programs take four years. You will need a minimum of 24 semester hours in accounting or auditing classes to pursue an audit career, apart from getting good grades in your classes.
Most training programs will include an internship or job placement program to ensure that you have on the job training experience. If you are checking out certification online programs, first ensure that they provide good job placements for their graduates since not all of them provide this.
