Biomedical Equipment Technician Career


A biomedical technician takes on roles in installations, adjustments, maintenance, calibration and repair of different medical equipment.One may specialize in the maintenance and repair of specific medical equipment, while another may work in several departments and handle different types of equipment.  Should there be any malfunction, it is his duty to collaborate with the manufacturer to get the equipment fixed or replaced.

He is to make sure that these machines are operating smoothly and efficiently as well as keep records of all the work done on a certain machine. The biomedical equipment technician is also tasked to educate or train nurses and other medical staff on how to use these machines properly.

How to become a Biomedical Equipment Technician

To become a biomedical equipment technician, one must earn an associate or bachelor’s degree in biomedical equipment technology or engineering.  Training programs for aspiring biomedical equipment technician helps one gain practical skills and experience through hands-on activities.  Trainings are usually done on hospitals or manufacturing companies.  Obtain a certification through the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation.  One must take continuing education courses to renew his credentials.
