What differentiates Chartered accountants from all the other accountants is that the chartered accounting program is a Graduate Diploma course.  The word Chartered was derived from ‘Royal Charter’ and it was first granted in 1854 to a group of accountants in British Commonwealth Countries and Ireland. If you chose a Chartered Accountant Career, you will be internationally recognized by other accounting bodies, so you will be able to work in most places in the world as an accountant.

How to become a chartered accountant

Attain a Bachelors degree qualification in an accounting program

Then complete a graduate Diploma in Chartered Accounting.

Complete at least three years working for an organization that is recognized by the Institute, while you are still a student.

Be mentored by a member of the Chartered Institute who will be working in the same organization as you.

CHARTERED ACCOUNTANT Career types

Chartered accountants can work in all spheres of Finance, Banking, Consultancy, Auditing and Business. Their career path can also lead them to a public or private sector career.

Courses, Training, Programs

You will take two years to complete a Graduate Diploma in Chartered accounting. You will take five modules in this course.

Some of the classes that you should take when doing your undergraduate course in order to be eligible to qualify to become a chartered accountant include Auditing, Corporate Finance, Financial Accounting, Management Accounting, Taxation, Commercial and Corporations Law.

The fees that you will pay for the course will cover the costs of your tuition, assessment tests, printed and web based materials and face to face sessions.

You can enroll online for Chartered Accountant Programs. As a prerequisite, you will first need to complete a 26 week work experience before you can begin your first module. You can do the next 3 modules in whichever order you want, but you cannot do them concurrently. Once you are enrolled, you receive a Candidate Learning Pack (CLP), which has all the learning materials for your first module.

You can enroll for long distance programs such as the Financial Training Company.

If you have masters in a Taxation program or you are a member of CIMA, you can apply for exemption in one of the modules such as Taxation or Management.

Currently, there are no colleges or universities that teach ACCA, therefore, students usually enroll in correspondence programs.

The job outlook shows that at least 10,000 chartered accountants are required in a year. There is still a shortfall of chartered accountantswhich shows that once you graduate, you will not need to engage in a frustrating job search. The entry pay is about $45000. If you have more experience your salary can amount to $140,000.

I m a student of M.Com as well as I m also doing a job on the post of peon in a semi-goverment factory. But I want to continue my study.
My family have not finance strength. So I m not capable of doing any professional course on leaving job.
So, please tell me that can I do CA with my job and how?

i am reading B.COM 1st year, with a basic knowledge and in a free form of tension. I need to know how to approach CA. Is it hard, i hope not so. Should i run my days more serious to achieve it? or to make the studies at enjoyable mode to succeed…

I am an engineering graduate. And working in a Electricity corporation since 14 yrs. I want to do CA course by distance education or by corroespondence continuing my regular service.
