In the world of information technology, the role of a computer technician is very important.  The computer technician takes on the lead in installation, monitoring, troubleshooting and repair of computer systems, networks, hardware, software, and computer devices.  The computer technician is tasked to diagnose and analyze computer-related issues.  As problems arise, the computer technician goes on to repair and fix issues surrounding computer hardware, system and devices.  One also is tasked to install, analyze, upgrade and test various computer systems, hardware systems, software applications, networks and devices. The computer technician is also responsible for performing maintenance tasks and assist users as well.  Working with a team of IT professionals, a computer technician handles specialized tasks depending on one’s employer and specialization.  With a big task at hand, the computer technician needs to have a background in IT technology, electronics, software applications, and operating systems.  It is a must that one is equipped with good communication and interpersonal skills.

How to become a Computer Technician

To become a computer technician, one must complete high school or GED.  Choose an accredited vocational, trade or community school.  Enter a computer technician training program or earn an associate’s degree.  Obtain an A+ certification through the Computing Technology Industry Association.  Through this, one will earn a designation as qualified computer service technician.  Secure an employment and gain relevant experience.  This, in turn, will qualify one to gain a certification as recognized by the Electronics Technicians Association International.  Continue to educate oneself through continuing education programs to be on track with the ever changing world of information technology.
