Career Description: You will need to make projected cash flows, balance and reconcile bank statements, authorize checks for payments, checking for thoroughness and accuracy in accounting records and overseeing accounting works by junior clerks in a corporate accounting career. As a corporate accountant, you will be working for a number of companies, co-operatives, publicly listed companies, clubs or any other corporate institution. You will be expected to offer advice to the management of these companies on how to profitably run their companies from a financial perspective. You can work at different stages of company growth, starting from start up through to companies that are being sold.

How to Become a Corporate Accountant

You will need a high school diploma and a bachelors degree preferably in an accounting or business related field.

You will also need to get certified.

To improve your prospects in your corporate accounting career, you will need to be a CPA.

It will help if you have experience as an accountant. You can gain this experience through internships when you are undertaking your undergraduate degree.

Career Paths: You have the option of following diverse career paths in corporate accounting career. For instance you can become a tax preparer, business consultant, corporate in house accountant or a CPA.

Before you gain admission into an accounting program in college or university, you will need to submit your SAT I and American College Test (ACT) scores. You will also need to get good scores in the entrance exams offered by the college. The minimum scores for your SAT score should be 440 and 480 or the critical reading.

Classes that you will attend for your corporate career accounting degree include income taxes, auditing, database management, project management, business communications, accounting, computer systems and law. You can look into online certification programs which offer accounting software and packages especially in MBA programs

You have the option of doing a Business Administration Degree, a Bachelor of Science in Accounting degree, Business Studies program, Economics course, Mathematics or a B.Com degree. You can also choose any other degree course which has a focus in accounting.

Before you can apply to become a CPA you will need at least 150 credit hours in your accounting undergraduate degree. Pursuing a higher degree in accounting will help to prepare for CPA exams
