Whenever a user encounters technical problems with the computer a desktop support engineer is there to assist.  The desktop support engineer is responsible for making computer use easy.  The desktop is assembled and installed by a desktop support engineer.  He makes sure that all systems are updated with patches and software updates.  The desktop support engineer must be several steps ahead of the user so that he may be able to introduce the use of new software.  He is also tasked to troubleshoot and help the user with daily problems that might be encountered. Having a job such as this requires one to have excellent communication skills.  One must be able to effectively assist users with the various technical difficulties encountered.  He must be armed with patience since there may be problems that are too complex and difficult to solve immediately.

One must obtain a technical certification.  Having this certification will give one an edge and gain favor from prospective employers.  Getting into internships will help one gain practical experience.  Being able to apply theories learned in an actual situation helps one assess himself.  He would know what he still has to learn and what skills he still lacks.
