Distribution management covers the prompt and efficient transport or shipping of products.  Heading and overseeing the distribution management team is the distribution manager. The distribution manager coordinates with marketing executives to make sure that products reach its destination on the time specified. It is his responsibility to check on the products’ condition, the volume of products to be transported, and the cost of the products.  He is also tasked to hire, train, and evaluate staff.  The distribution manager handles problems and issues that may arise before, during and after transporting of products.  The skills required for this type of career is leadership, organization, communication, problem solving and interpersonal. These are acquired through experience and formal education.

How to become a Distribution Manager

The aspiring distribution manager must earn a diploma, an associate’s or bachelor’s degree in business administration, management or other business-related field.  Start in an entry-level position in transport and distribution.   Gain relevant experience and seek advancement.  Advancing towards the position of a distribution manager requires one to gain the necessary knowledge and skills.  One can pursue higher studies and earn a master’s degree.  Earning a master’s degree or an MBA allows one to specialize and opens opportunities for promotion.
