Dolphin Training Career

Loving the sea and the creatures that live in it can become your next career.   One sea animal that everyone loves is the dolphin.  They are intelligent and playful.  Dolphins are the main attraction of aquatic shows and they never fail to get the attention of many.  Dolphins in aquatic shows are trained by a trainer.  The dolphin trainer works with dolphins.  Aside from training dolphins, it is the trainer’s responsibility to clean the tank, feed, give medications and provide activities that will motivate the animals.  This career is very dynamic and exciting.  Each day will not be the same as the other.

How to become a Dolphin Trainer

To become a successful dolphin trainer, one must have a background in the sciences and math.  An individual may pursue a degree in biology, marine biology, or other related fields.  A degree in psychology and animal behavior are good choices too.  A dolphin trainer must also have excellent communication and swimming skills.  One must also do volunteer or internship to be able to gain practical experience.  A hands-on training experience will help one gain a good chance to get employed.  There are also training programs available specifically about training dolphins.  These programs can very well equip one to become a dolphin trainer.  When hired, an individual will be mentored by the senior trainers.

An aspiring dolphin trainer will have an in-depth study of biology, marine life, and animal behavior.  Volunteer programs or internships give one hand-on training which does not only focus on dolphins but other marine animals as well.  On-the-job training prepares one further as one will to do each and every aspect of becoming a dolphin trainer.
