The career of a drilling superintendent revolves around planning and implementation of every aspect of the drilling program.  The drilling program covers health and safety of staff as well as taking care of the environment.The drilling superintendent has various tasks which includemanagement of drilling operations, hiring and evaluation staff, scheduling and coordination, implementation of safety regulations, supervise documentation, problem resolution, coordination and collaboration with different units and contractors, program approval, and budget management.  He is also responsible for reporting assignments.He makes sure that working conditions and all activities are favorable.   The safety and health of both his staff and the environment is under his control.  The drilling superintendent must have an engineering background as well as skills in communication, organization, management and administration.

How to become a Drilling Superintendent

To become a drilling superintendent, one must earn an engineering degree, preferably petroleum engineering.  Gain relevant experience in the gas and oil industry as well as offshore and onshore drilling operations.  One must have the ability to lead and communicate.  Having business skills is also advantageous. One must also have the knowledge and skills in computer use and data management.  Obtain certification as well.  A certification makes one eligible to work as a drilling superintendent.
