He mainly works as a link between company staff, employee unions and HR department. Employee relation officer manage all those issues that are related with employee performance, personal grievance, disputes and merger of different employee policies. He also provides consultancy/advisory services to the company and employees as well for various matters.

They should keep themselves update with the latest changes/trends of labor laws, Meyers-Milias-Brown Act and other state laws. An employee relation officer has to represent his company with different employee organizations and to other government departments as well so he is expected to have good command over company policies about employee, business finance etc.
