An Esthetician career progresses more on the lines of a skin care specialist. An Esthetician is often known to be someone who specializes in various hand care methods similar to that of a manicurist.  Overall, as an esthetician, one will need to provide special care and take into consideration skin requirements of their clients. The primary objective is to help their clients in improving skin appearance as well as the overall look and feel. Estheticians can sometimes diagnose skin problems and refer their clients for proper medical care.

How to become an Esthetician:

Those who are interested in becoming an Esthetician need to complete their high school diploma or a General Educational Development (GED) certificate. This is the basic qualification required to start working as an Esthetician. One can also apply for a cosmetology program and on the completion of such a program; one will need to apply for licensure. Different states have different licensing exams that consist primarily of oral and written tests and practicals in subjects like styling. A license will help one to pursue a career as an Esthetician.

There are several high school diploma programs and cosmetology available that one can choose from. Cosmetology programs will introduce one to the basic skills in manicuring, maintaining personal hygiene, bacteriology, shampooing, professional image and conduct, sanitation and physiology, hair cutting, and hair and skin treatments.

There are several institutions in the USA that offer diploma programs in skin care. After completing diploma, one can opt for a cosmetology program accredited by National Accrediting Commission of Cosmetology Arts and Sciences (NACCAS). One can also apply for their licensure through the various State Department of Licensing and Regulation boards.
