He oversees all operations regarding medical documents such as recording and keeping medical information, filing and maintaining records and monitoring them. He makes sure that these are complete, accurate and secured.  The use of these medical documents is regulated by the health information manager.  To do this job well, one must have the skills to organize and communicate.

How to become a Health Information Manager

To become a health information manager, one must earn a bachelor’s degree in health information management.  One may pursue higher studies and earn a master’s degree.  Moving up to a management position, such as a health information management career, requires one to go through training as a staff. Gain enough experience to be considered as a health information manager.  Become certified through a certifying body such as the American Health Information Management Association. A certification gives one an edge over the others by making him more knowledgeable about the industry.  A health information manager must continue to learn and take the necessary courses to succeed.
