Health Services Manager Career


The health services manager is responsible for the management of cost, quality, and delivery of health care services.  He is tasked to collaborate and negotiate with the medical and non-medical staff, implement policies and standards, oversee daily operations of a unit or department, gather and analyze data, manage systems and projects, handle finances and budget, plan and implement strategic changes, handle communications and corporate affairs, and do purchasing activities. Selection, hiring, training, and evaluation of staff are also the job of the health services manager.He represents the department or unit he manages during committee meetings.

How to become a Health Services Manager

To become a health services manager, one must earn a master’s degree in health administration, health sciences, business administration or other related field.  With a master’s degree, one can start his career at a supervisory position.  An individual may start this career with a bachelor’s degree and enter as an administrative assistant.

After gaining much experience, training, or advanced courses, one may advance into a supervisory position.  One must have excellent skills in communication, leadership, management, administration and problem solving skills.  Depending on the department or unit that a health services manager will oversee, an advanced degree, relevant experience and license are required.
