Hospitality Career Courses, Certification and Training

Most entry-level jobs in hospitality do not need a formal training or course.  In most places, on-the-job training is given as you go along.  However, certain departments do require formal training and certification.

If you are looking for a service sector job in the hospitality industry then, a high school diploma is good enough.  Most hotels or hotel-chains conduct their own training sessions catering to the specific needs of their customers.  These courses are designed as personal training sessions or through audio-visual demonstrations or as on-line programs.

Vocational courses in food preparation, catering and hotel and restaurant management are provided by various restaurant and lodging associations.  The duration of the program differs for each of these courses.  These courses are important if you are opting for chefs’ jobs or bartending jobs.

A degree in hotel, restaurant or hotel management is definitely a plus point when looking for management positions in the hospitality industry.  You will be much sought-after and get a great push-start to your career if you are equipped with either a Bachelor’s or a Master’s degree in hospitality or related fields.  Such a degree will also help you to advance to top management positions.

If you are looking for a job opening in gaming sector then you would need a license which has been issued by a regulatory agency like the State casino control board or commission.  With gaming no longer being limited to Nevada and New Jersey States, an increase in opportunities in this sector is expected to be much more than in any other sector of the hospitality industry.
