The salary scale varies a great deal, depending on the job you are holding.  In the service sector jobs, like waiters, housekeeping, concierges and baggage porters, the pay is not really very high.  Though the Federal minimum wage of $5.85 is a given, a substantial amount of the earnings are through tips.  This again depends largely on the size of the establishment, their rates and the volume of the customers.

Industry sources predict an increase of about 14 per cent in the salary structure of all those employed in the hospitality industry.  Skilled professionals like chefs and managerial jobs will get you the highest salaries in this field.  Managerial position jobs may include a lot of perks like free meals, laundry and other services and free-stay for the families and themselves.

Career change in the hospitality sector is a very common way of career progression.  So, even if you do not see a promotion in the offing in your present job position, a switch in jobs can ensure you that.
