Career Description:

The career of a legal executive revolves around litigation, solicitor or lawyer assistance, providing legal advice, research, case preparation and legal document composition.  Depending on one’s specialization, the legal executive deals with legal matters or activities such as legal representations, legal assistance, handling court cases, drafting of wills and documents, and analysis of legal information.  A legal executive also takes on the position of a commissioner of oaths.  Tasks of a legal executive depend on one’s employer. There are varied specializations that a legal executive may pursue.  This includes areas of law such as family, criminal, business, real estate, civil, conveyance, litigation, probate and personal injury.  But no matter what one specializes in, one must have the skills to communicate, analyze and solve problems.

How to become a Legal Executive

An aspiring legal executive must earn a bachelors degree in law or other related field.  After graduation one must be able to take and pass the LSAT or Law School Admissions Test.  Apply in several law schools.  Taking several chances gives one a bigger chance of getting admitted.  Upon admission, choose a specialization that one is interested in.  Get into an internship program provided by the school. Internship programs help one gain skills and experience.  Then one has to take and pass the bar exam. Passing the bar exam makes one licensed to practice law.  One must gain as much experience as he can to become an eligible candidate for this type of career.

A law degree allows one to gain knowledge in the various areas of law.  One is given background in legal theories, principles, ethics, writing, research, torts, contracts and procedures.  Internship programs include mock trials, writing of legal documents and analyzing stages of a lawsuit.
