Marine Engineering Career

Marine engineering career is concerned with the maintenance, design and construction of shipsboats and other maritime support systems and equipment. A naval engineer designs and supervises the construction of vessels from submarines, aircraft carriers, to boats and tankers. The engineer is expected to deal with the overall structure, stability, propulsion, steering and all other systems that are involved in the navigation of a vessel.

To become a sea engineer, you are expected to have completed your high school with a focus and a 10+2 level pass in science related subjects. An undergraduate course is not necessary and therefore you can go forward and study for your bachelor’s degree, in Marine, Mechanical or Ocean engineering for a period of about four years. You also have to obtain a work license.

Marine engineering does not have many fields.  It basically comes down to the position of marine engineers and naval architects. A naval architect is a person who deals only with the construction of ship structures and ensures that the structures are stable. It is therefore the work of the marine engineer to deal with all other aspects that may be involved in the construction.

Qualifications: Course Training Certification

Once you have passed the specified subjects in your high school curriculum, it is not deemed necessary to take an undergraduate course. But in some institutions it is required. Therefore consult with your institution to find out their intake requirements.
