Medical Career Opportunities, salaries and recruitment

Medical and Health care industry is among the top three industries which is actively recruiting employees today.  It is a growing field, and U.S. Department of Labor estimates that about 3 million new jobs will be generated between 2006 and 2016.  This is a good reason to cheer, in times, when most industries are resorting to cut backs and layoffs.

Medical career opens doors to people with varied tastes and educational backgrounds.  Other than the popular fields like those of Physicians, Surgeons, Specialists, Medical Assistants, etc. careers in medicine also have job openings for people with technical or accounting backgrounds.  The jobs that are gaining popularity in the recent times include medical billing career and medical coding career along with medical transcriptionist career.

The employment opportunities for most careers in medical field are expected to be way above average.  To quote one example, jobs for medical records and health information technicians are predicted to increase by 18% between 2006 and 2016.

One of the many advantages of a medical career is that career change or advancement on the career ladder is easily possible.  You can start with jobs that require less skill and are less paying and take up courses and training to move on to better career paths in the medical field.  Many organizations encourage this career change, especially as an incentive to hard working and diligent workers.

Another added advantage of medical careers is that job opportunities are not restricted to certain locations or areas.  You can choose to pursue your medical career in rural, urban or metropolitan places, depending on your personal requirements and aspirations.  Also, you can make your own choice of working in a hospital, or a health care facility, or a centre for elderly patients etc.

The salaries of those in medical careers can vary greatly depending on the field you are in, the qualifications and experience among other factors.  However, most medical careers get you a good pay packet.  An average entry-level job in medical career can earn you anywhere between $15 and $50 per hour, which is generally more than the average.  Specialists like Physicians and Surgeons are among the highest paid.

Physicians draw the highest salaries not only among all the medical careers but in comparison to other occupations as well.  Job opportunities for physicians are also predicted to be much more than average.

With a growing percentage of the population predicted to fall into the ‘elderly age’ bracket soon, health care industry is set to remain a large source of job growth in the markets today.  The number of employment opportunities in medical career for both professionally qualified candidates as well as workers from allied fields is expected to continue to grow.
