The medical technician is a very important part of the medical industry.  The role of the medical technician in the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of various health problems or medical condition is vital.  The duties and responsibilities of a medical technician include collecting, examining and analyzing samples such as fluids, tissues or cells.  One uses specific equipments or tools to be able to administer tests.  The medical technician may do simple procedures while working as an assistant to a physician or nurse. He is also in charge of preparing equipments, monitoring supplies and maintaining the laboratory.  The medical technician may take on specific tasks depending on which department or unit one is assigned to.  One may work as a surgical technician, emergency medical technician, medical lab technician or radiology and ultrasound technician.

To become a medical technician, one must have finished high school. A good background in math, biology, chemistry and English will help one in pursuing this type of career.  Earn an associate’s degree in medical laboratory technology.  Be sure that the degree program is accredited by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences.  Get an internship and gain practical experience.  Gain employment as a medical technician and acquire relevant experience.  Obtain a certification depending on one’s specialty. Certification provides an avenue for better opportunities.  One desiring advancement in this career may pursue higher studies and gain a bachelor’s degree.
