Middle School Teacher Career


The middle school teacher handles sixth to eight grade classes.  The subject that one handles will depend on his educational background or expertise.  One may teach math, English, science, history, arts or physical education.  It is his responsibility and duty to plan the lessons, come up with class activities, administer tests and evaluate the students’ progress.  The middle school teacher must also manage the classroom, implement school and classroom rules, and meet with parents to discuss various concerns.   With this type of career, one has to have excellent communication, organization, administration and management skills.  One must be able to work well with a team.

How to become a Middle School Teacher

An individual aspiring to become a middle school teacher must pursue a degree depending on the subject he wants to teach.  Employers generally hire an individual who has earned a bachelor’s degree.  One must also complete a teacher training program.  Some employers, on the other hand, require one to earn a master’s degree in the field of education.  Obtain a license to teach as required by the state.  Licensing requirements vary depending on one’s location.  Continue to brush up on one’s skills through continuing education courses.
