Career Description:
The national account manager is part of the sales department of an organization. He takes on the role of generating new clients and managing national accounts for the organization. The national account manager is responsible for securing contacts and client list, building relationships with prospective clients, gathering client information, and preparing contracts and agreements.
And aside from bringing in client accounts, the national account manager is also tasked to develop and implement marketing strategies, analyze and evaluate sales, conduct audits, develop and implement activities to maintain client relationships, and prepare reports. He uses the national account management plan of the organization in doing his responsibilities in account management, sales processing and reporting. As a person taking the lead in account management he is to train and evaluate his staff. The national account manager must have excellent leadership, communication, organizational, analytical and interpersonal skills.

To begin one’s career towards becoming a national account manager, one must earn a bachelor’s degree in business management, marketing and other related field. It is important to gain relevant experience in the field of sales and account management. Be prepared to lead, strategize, set goals and solve problems encountered. Be armed with computer application skills as well. It is a must that an aspiring national account manager to have both formal education and sales experience to become successful.
