The nurse anesthetist, also known as certified registered nurse anesthetist, is a nurse licensed to administer anesthetics.  Aside from the administration of anesthesia or anesthetics, one provides the needed care for patients who receive it.  The job may sound simple but it requires careful and accurate administration of drugs needed for a specific procedure.  One works under a doctor or surgeon together with other medical staff from the beginning till the end of a specific procedure.  The nurse anesthetist is involved in knowing a patient’s condition and options in treatment.  He is also responsible for tracking a patient’s vital signs undergoing a procedure.  He is to inform the doctor or surgeon of a patient’s progress/condition during the procedure.  This career path threads one of the highest paid nursing positions.  To become successful in this field, one has to go through formal education and gain practical experience.

How to become a Nurse Anesthetist

To become a nurse anesthetist, one has to earn a bachelor’s degree in nursing.  After graduation and receiving a registered nurse license, one can then seek employment to gain experience in the field of nursing.  One may then pursue graduate studies through a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist graduate program.  Upon graduation, one has to take and successfully pass the certification exam.  Maintain the license by taking recertification courses.
