Most companies now, prefer workers who have atleast a high school diploma.  Most on-the-site jobs require technical skills and candidates are expected to pass a skill test.  With increasingly complex and advanced machinery used on location, workers are expected to be computer literate and tech savvy.  Candidates who have completed courses or have undergone training in mining or related vocational programs have better chances of employment.

Most on-the-site jobs require some kind of certifications in safety, as these jobs are high-risk jobs.  According to the Federal Mine Safety and Health Act workers should have undergone a health and safety training program.  The duration of this training varies with experience, and it is important to renew it every year.
