The career description of an oil rig crane operator goes beyond his job title.  Aside from taking care of crane operations to lift supplies and equipment aboard the rig, one has other duties.  The oil rig crane operator supervises oil rig workers and crane operator assistants.  His responsibilities may also include the general maintenance of the rig.  He makes sure that the rig is cleansed and untarnished.  An oil rig operator must be armed with good physical health and endurance.  This is one challenging type of job but it is financially rewarding as well.

How to become an Oil Rig Crane Operator

An aspiring oil rig crane operator must undergo a crane operator training program and an offshore training.  Completing a training program through authorized training centers or institutes will help one gain a crane operator certification.  A certification is required by OHSA or Occupational Safety and Health Administration.  To be considered as an oil rig crane operator, one must gain the necessary experience required by the employer. The offshore training program is usually given by the employer.  A person’s character is important as well, employers look for someone who is driven, trustworthy, and dependable.  He must be able to work well with a team.
