Painter Career


The painter career involves the application of paint, stains, and preparatory materials to various surfaces.  These surfaces include ceilings, walls, furniture, equipment and signage materials.  He is also tasked to apply decorative and protected materials or paint on surfaces of buildings.  Prior to painting, one prepares the surface by washing, scraping, and smoothing it.  The operation of compressors, spray equipment, stripping machines, and other powered equipment is done by a painter as well.  The painter also collaborates with clients to determine the appropriate colors or applications needed.

How to become a Painter

To become a painter, one must at least have a high school diploma or its equivalent.  To gain the necessary background for this career, one must complete a technical training program in painting.  Gain relevant experience as well.  One must know the different tools, materials and equipment used for painting.  Knowing the application techniques will also help one become successful as a painter.  One must be ready to handle, prepare, apply and dispose hazardous materials as well.  Employers provide on-the-job training to prepare a newly hired house painter for the job.
