Career Description:

In the world of information technology there are computer-related issues such as corrupted files, lost operating systems, crashed hard drives and other issues needing troubleshooting or repair.  These are issues that at are at times cannot be handled by an ordinary person.  The PC technician then comes into the picture.  It is the PC technician’s responsibility to look into IT or computer systems, software, devices and networks making sure that everything is functioning well.  His tasks include testing, troubleshooting, installing, monitoring, repairing and maintaining these systems and devices.  The duties of a PC technician depend on one’s working environment or specialization.  The PC technician also trains users of various software and systems.  It is his responsibility to answer queries and address complaints.  With all these at hand a PC technician is required to undergo formal training.

How to become a PC Technician

The aspiring computer technician must at least have a high school diploma or GED.  Having this will allow one to enter a vocational, community, or trade school.  Get into a computer technician training program.  Obtain an A+ certification through the Computing Technology Industry Association and become a qualified PC technician.  Get an employment or do volunteer work and gain relevant experience.  One must then expand his credentials, take a certification exam and gain certification recognized by the Electronic Technicians Association.  If one wishes to specialize and is seeking advancement in this career, one must obtain continuing education courses.
