Career Description:

The career of a practice nurse covers a wide array of responsibilities.  The practice nurse, also known as a nurse practitioner, provides diagnosis, screening, treatment, assistance and support.  He provides healthcare services for people of various ages.  It is his task to educate and inform people about various ailments or health conditions, perform minor operations or procedures, do different types of medical tests, administer vaccinations or injections and provide medical treatments.  He also manages and maintains the clinic, including medical records of patients. With a lot in a practice nurse’s hands, he must be able to organize, communicate and work with a team.

How to become a Practice Nurse

To become a practice nurse, one must earn a bachelors degree in nursing.  After successfully completing the degree, he is then eligible to take a licensing exam.  To gain experience in nursing, one can secure an employment in local hospitals or work for private practitioners/doctors.  Pursue higher studies and earn a masters degree or an MSN. This will help one who wishes to advance and become an advanced practice nurse.  Secure a certification by taking the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners exam. Being certified ensures one of good employment and benefits.
