Real estate careers offer many career choices. The prerequisite qualifications for these may vary depending on your choice of specialization.

Those opting to be real estate agents or brokers must have a licensure.  This is a mandatory requirement in all the States and District of Columbia. The eligibility criteria require you to be atleast 18 years old, have a high school diploma and you should have passed a written test. Other criterion includes 60 to 90 hours of classroom training and sometimes work experience is also compulsory. However, these criteria vary depending on the State and the circumstances.

License renewal is compulsory every 1 or 2 years and continuing education is important for this renewal. Many States require completion of real estate courses in order to be eligible for renewal of license.  However, some States accept on-the-job training programs and other related activities, while granting license renewal.

Courses in real estate continuing education are vital, as they keep you up to date with the changes in regulations and policies.  It is important for real estate professionals to keep abreast of these changing practices to do justice to their jobs.

Many institutes offer courses in real estate, taxation laws, economics, statistics, all of which are helpful when you are looking for real estate jobs.

Internships also form an important part of the training for real estate careers.  Many candidates start-off on their career paths by working under more experienced people in their own communities.  This experience can help them both when they are looking for real estate jobs and setting up their own real estate firms
