Sports Courses, Training, Certification

The kind of training you require depends a lot on the kind of sports career you choose.  Irrespective of the career-path you have chosen, you must have overall knowledge about the game.  Experience and proficiency gained from working at lower levels can help build the requisite knowledge-base.

If you want to pursue your career as a professional athlete, then you begin by qualifying at school and college levels.  You have to begin with amateur tournaments and then move on to professional events.

Many candidates wanting to pursue their careers as sportspersons choose to do courses in weight training, nutrition or exercise selection, as these can help them develop their overall skills.

If you choose to be a coach or a sports instructor, then you must preferably have a bachelor’s degree.  If you want to officiate at athletic events in school, then you must register with the State agency and you should have passed an exam testing your proficiency in the rules of the particular game.

Certifications are very useful and desirable.  If you plan to pursue a career as a sports instructor, then it is good to have certification inCardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).  This certification is highly desirable, especially for sports like tennis, golf, karate etc.  The pre-requisites to qualify for a certificate vary depending on the organization and sport.

The type of certification and training requirements vary depending on the game, and the level of competition.  Umpires who want to officiate at league games have to attend professional umpire training school.
