Surgical Technologist Career

The surgical technologist plays an important part in a surgical procedure or process.  He is to provide the necessary assistance to the supervising surgeon.  He is tasked to interview patients, prepare the operating room, prepare tools and supplies required, check on the items needed, assist the surgical team, hand in instruments and equipment as required, handle specimens, prepare medication, maintain cleanliness of the surgical area, maintain equipment, record information, and store all instruments.

A surgical technologist must have skills in multitasking, organization, and communication.One must be able to work with a team.  Through formal training or education, one is able to pursue a surgical technologist career.

How to become a Surgical Technologist

To become a surgical technologist, one must at least have a high school diploma. One should focus on health sciences such as biology and chemistry.  One may work as a volunteer in a hospital to gain relevant experience. Obtain formal training through vocational or technical schools, community colleges or hospitals.  Obtain a certification and become a Certified Surgical Technologist or a Tech in Surgery Certified.  A certification will allow one to gain better chances of employment.    One may specialize in a certain area of surgery.  Gaining a specialization will help one advance.
