The educational services sector is the second largest industry in the States accounting for about 13.3 million jobs.  The employment in this field is currently the most stable and predicted to show a growth in the coming years.  According to official studies, the recruitment of school teachers is expected to grow by 12% between 2006 and 2016.

The career opportunities may vary depending on the State, locality, grade or level and subjects taught.

Currently, various factors guide many people to teaching career; these include better pay and involvement of teachers in the policy making of schools etc.  With more and more students joining and expected to join schools in the coming years, the job opportunities are all set to increase.

The average salary of secondary, elementary and kindergarten school teachers ranges anywhere between $43,000 and $49,000.

This salary can be supplemented with additional income by actively taking part in other job openings in the school.  These may include additional coaching for sports and working with students in extracurricular activities.  You can also take up summer jobs, which may include summer teaching jobs or jobs related to administration.

Career change from teaching to other branches of education including administration or technical help is easily possible, depending on your qualifications and professional exposure.
